Movie Review: How To Make A Killing

How To Make A Killing is a fun, modern day Midsommer Murder with a twist, a good date night movie.

How To Make A Killing

Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell), grandson of a billionaire, is sitting on Death Row, but how did he get there? As the clock counts down to his execution he tells his story to the priest.

Years ago when his eighteen-year-old mother became pregnant she was thrown out of the family mansion. The immediate death of his father and soon after his mother sent him into foster care but not before his mother urged him to regain his family right and fortune.

Working hard he soon finds his way into a good job and meets a nice girl. But his mother’s word continue. A mantra that cannot be ignored.

Digging out the family tree he realizes that only a handful of relatives stand between him and billions. A plan is hatched. All he needs is a handful of perfect murders.

As the audience laughed I pondered:

  1. The movie explores themes of family, greed and whether money creates happiness;
  2. Most of all though the movie considers the power of contentment and not always wanting more;
  3. There’s a cool twist in the final moments;
  4. Powell does a good job;
  5. The movie is a fun night out full of laughs and murder. If you’re a Midsommer Murder fan you’ll enjoy this one.
